Can inserts be added to die castings?

The following points should be paid attention to when designing die castings with inserts:

(1) Inserts and die castings shall be firmly connected. In order to prevent the insert from moving, rotating or pulling out in the die casting when it is stressed, the surface of the part of the insert inserted into the die casting is designed into an appropriate concave convex shape, and the most commonly used methods are knurling, knurling, grooving, milling and flattening.

(2) When the insert is put into the mold, it should have reliable positioning and reasonable tolerance matching with the mold.

(3) The thickness of the metal layer around the insert shall not be too thin, so as to improve the wrapping force of the casting on the insert and prevent cracks in the metal layer. The thickness of the metal layer can be selected according to the diameter of the insert

(4) The part of the insert inserted into the casting shall not have sharp corners to prevent the die casting from cracking at the sharp corners.

(5) There should be no electrochemical corrosion between the insert and the die casting substrate, and the outer surface of the insert can be coated if necessary.

(6) Heat treatment should be avoided for die castings with inserts, so as to avoid different volume changes due to different thermal expansion coefficients of the two materials, resulting in looseness of the inserts in the die castings.
